Something new on the western front
KROMI Branch West moves to larger premises, Caterpillar drives sales expansion into Belgium
The history of the KROMI branch in western Germany dates back to October 2000. At that time, branch manager Wilfried Schmitz practically handled the first tool management activities for KROMI from his home office. Parallel to the launch of the KROMI Tool Center KTC, he started supplying customers with cutting tools in the North Rhine-Westphalia region together with his dispatcher Christoph Kabata. Visits were made particularly often during this time to Remscheid and Monschau, the locations of their first customer C.A. Picard. In the wake of the nationwide expansion of the KROMI logistics network in Germany, they moved into an office with adjacent warehouse in Erkrath in April 2002. Due to the success of KROMI Tool Management, all the signs in Erkrath also pointed in the direction of further growth. After a short time, two other customers were won over, the machining specialists CDL in Mönchengladbach and GHH Rand, the manufacturer of screw compressors in Oberhausen.
Two years ago, the branch then faced its greatest challenge. As part of KROMI‘s worldwide end-to-end supply obligations to the construction equipment manufacturer Caterpillar, its production plant in the Belgian town of Gosselies had to be integrated into the delivery system. This jump into the Benelux countries also worked without any problem. In its wake, the branch occupied a 250 m2 office with warehouse in Hilden in September 2015. Since then the number of staff has also grown. 11 employees, a trainee and a further part-time member of staff currently take care of all the customers‘ needs. Since April 2016 they have been supervised by the office manager Dejan Mikic.
